juniper

Salvemos los Juníperos de Santa Mónica Save the Santa Monica Juniper trees. The phone call went like this: "Hello, I'm Maria...(es un contestador automático) from Seville, Spain. I understand that 42 Juniper trees are to be cut down in Reed Park. This is terrible after the cutting down of so many ficus trees in Santa Monica which shocked us so much when we visited last year. We are a group of doctors, medical intellectuals who go to Santa Monica every two years and we are beginning to consider alternative destinations if Santa Monica is to become a cement haven! Each one in the group has an ancesteral link to the "Camino Real". We consider the possibility that the juniper trees were planted by Fray Junipero Serra and that is very precious to our familys' memory. Thank you very much. Please forgive my English....."

The Treesavers dramatize their plea to save the Junipers. Despite long hours on the site, only 38 trees were saved from the ax. The fight continues...

The Treesavers of Santa Mónica agradecen la solidaridad de San Andresito. Many thanks to San Andresito for the solidarity.
